Company leaders see the automotive technology industry's progress as inevitable, regardless of President-elect Donald Trump's stated plans to hike tariffs.
"I feel like there's going to be no slowdown as far as technology innovation goes," said Nakul Duggal, Qualcomm's group manager for automotive, industrial and cloud businesses, in an interview at CES. "In fact, it just keeps getting more and more accelerated."
While leaders did express concern over trade impacts, a realism — or acquiescence ― is settling over the industry, Automotive News found during interviews at the giant technology conference in Las Vegas.
Companies are looking at their supply chains and attempting to insulate them against potential turmoil and trade protectionism.
The artificial intelligence revolution is coming, they said, regardless of the new administration. And stakeholders expressed hope that Trump may consider the potential economic impacts of sweeping changes and temper his approach.
