Last year's war on EVs was mostly a verbal one, with President Trump mocking EVs and threatening to repeal pro-EV policies. This year, the threats are turning real. They can hit your wallet harder than you might think. Over the weekend, the Trump administration finalized its 25% tariffs on Canadian and Mexican imports. Canada hit back fast, with Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announcing retaliatory tariffs on $155 billion worth of U.S. goods—including cars. He switched effortlessly between English and French during the announcement, calling out the White House for driving a wedge between historic allies. While the Mexico tariffs are on hold for a month, Canada's go into effect on Tuesday. No matter what you wish to drive—gas, hybrid, plug-in hybrid, or full electric—car prices are about to jump across the board. So make sure you do your homework before stepping into that showroom.
