From my trip to Sweden last year, I learned three things: the Swedes love their coffee breaks, socializing midweek in the afternoons is normal and Volvos are practically a national treasure. Now Volvo's first big reveal of 2025, the ES90, is set for March 5. And no, it's not just a sedan version of the EX90 SUV. The ES90 aims to move the needle forward. It will get an 800-volt architecture, so expect it to be a charging monster. Volvo is also claiming 435 miles of range on the WLTP test cycle. Sure, that's optimistic, but if the EX90's EPA range of 310 miles is any bar, expect the sedan to be notably better with its slippery design and a more modern electrical architecture. In other news, Lucid CEO Peter Rawlinson stepped down just as the company doubled its 2025 production target to 20,000 EVs. Plus, we dive into Lynk & Co's 08 plug-in hybrid with a wild 124-mile EV range and why budget EVs seem to have fewer problems than their pricier counterparts. —Suvrat Kothari, Staff Writer |
