In 2020, 50 countries signed an agreement to reach carbon neutrality by 2050, but how much do you know about the efforts being made?
In this video, we take you on a journey to Guizhou, China, to learn about Geely Group's investment in green methanol fuel development and implementation. Methanol is a clean-burning fuel that can help reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
In this video, we take you on a journey to Guizhou, China, to learn about Geely Group's investment in green methanol fuel development and implementation.
Methanol is a clean-burning fuel that can help reduce greenhouse gas emissions. By promoting green methanol, Geely Group is helping to make significant progress in the global decarbonization efforts.
Geely's e-fuel strategy centers on green e-methanol, a fuel produced by capturing industrial CO2 emissions and combining them with hydrogen from renewable sources. This approach creates a carbon-neutral fuel, as the CO2 used in its creation is sourced from existing emissions, creating a closed carbon loop. Geely uses this e-methanol in its methanol-powered vehicles, including passenger cars and heavy-duty trucks, and is developing hybrid vehicle technology to utilize both e-methanol and electricity for a lower carbon footprint.
How the e-methanol process works:
Capture Carbon Dioxide:
Geely installs carbon capture technology at heavy industrial facilities to capture waste CO2 emissions before they reach the atmosphere.
Produce Green Hydrogen:
The captured CO2 is then combined with hydrogen. This hydrogen is produced via electrolysis using renewable energy.
Create E-Methanol:
The combination of captured CO2 and green hydrogen results in green e-methanol.
Geely's Applications and Benefits: Methanol Vehicles:
Geely has developed and tested various methanol-powered cars, such as its Emgrand sedan, and has deployed methanol taxi fleets in China.
Hybrid Technology:
The company is also incorporating e-methanol into its hybrid vehicle lines, such as the Emgrand M100 Hybrid, which can run on pure electric energy or a combination of electric and methanol power.
Heavy-Duty Transport:
Geely's e-methanol solution extends to its heavy-duty truck range, with its Farizon G2M trucks being used for fuel transportation.
Carbon Neutrality:
E-methanol offers a pathway to carbon neutrality by repurposing waste CO2 into a cleaner burning fuel, significantly reducing the overall greenhouse gas emissions of fuel production and use.
Complementary to EVs:
Geely sees methanol vehicles as a complementary solution to electric vehicles, providing an alternative for areas where full EV infrastructure is not yet feasible.
