Impeachment of Donald Trump

United States president Donald Trump (pictured) is impeached by the House of Representatives on charges of abuse of power and obstruction of Congress.
The impeachment of Donald Trump, the 45th president of the United States, occurred on December 18, 2019, when the House of Representatives, controlled by the Democratic Party, approved articles of impeachment on abuse of power and obstruction of Congress. President Trump's impeachment came after a House impeachment inquiry found that in the Trump–Ukraine scandal, Trump allegedly solicited foreign interference in the 2020 U.S. presidential election to help his re-election bid, and then obstructed the inquiry itself by telling his administration officials to ignore subpoenas for documents and testimony. The inquiry reported that Trump withheld military aid and an invitation to the White House in order to influence Ukraine into announcing investigations into Trump's political rivals and a discredited claim that Ukraine interfered in the 2016 U.S. presidential election.
