The Lucid Gravity SUV gains access to Tesla Superchargers at the end of this month, the American EV startup announced on Tuesday. But it was another detail in Lucid's press release that caught my eye. Today we learned that the Gravity can charge at 400 kilowatts, beating every other consumer EV on the market and exceeding what the vast majority of charging stations can even dispense. Lucid says the Gravity can add 200 miles of range in less than 12 minutes.
But it won't actually be able to do that on most Superchargers, for reasons I explain in my story below. Spoiler: EV voltage really matters. We're also continuing to track President Donald Trump's attacks on the EV sector. In brighter news, General Motors just started earning money on its electric cars for a change, and the Chevrolet Spark EV is back. —Tim Levin, Senior Reporter |
