President Trump's efforts to slow down America's transition to electric vehicles are proving to be costly. Last week, the General Services Administration, which manages federal buildings, announced that it was shutting down all its EV chargers as they were not "mission critical" and off-loading newly purchased EVs. Turns out, shutting down 8,000 charging ports isn't as simple as flipping a switch. Taxpayers are now on the hook for hundreds of millions of dollars to decommission chargers and sell off EVs purchased by the former administration. Now they'll be swapped for gas cars and that'll cost even more. EVs were saving the government money. Now, ditching them means taxpayers foot the bill—twice. —Suvrat Kothari, Staff Writer |
