Mercedes Is Testing This Firm's Solid-State Cells Solid-state batteries have been an EV industry buzzword for over a decade, but plans for their mass production have perpetually been just out of reach, always a few years away.
Now, Mercedes appears to be edging ahead with this promising battery technology. The automaker has begun tests of Factorial Energy's solid-state design, estimating a range of over 1,000 kilometers, or over 621 miles, in its prototype EQS sedan.
But a lot of things still have to fall into place before consumers can actually take advantage of solid-state tech. And its price competitiveness to the current crop of lithium-ion battery packs remains to be tested as well. Here's what else this battery composition promises besides range. |
