Building EV chargers in America's largest and most populated city is difficult. But Google-backed startup Gravity is out to prove that once you navigate the red tape, charging in New York City can be fast and flawless. Gravity opened its first fast-charging station last year, that too in the heart of Manhattan, just a block from Times Square. Each of the 24 dispensers are capable of delivering 500 kilowatts and it managed to clock 40,000 charging sessions with a claimed uptime of 100%, meaning drivers didn't have to deal with broken chargers. In other news, we explain why Chinese EVs could be tempting for Canada right now and how Europe is getting an influx of cheap, high-tech EVs, but not the U.S. And finally, Toyota may have been a laggard in the EV race, but not for long. It's planning a proper counteroffensive, starting with China. —Suvrat Kothari, Staff Writer |
