America is about as divided as it's ever been. But if there's one thing almost everyone seems to agree on, it's this: Trump's new tariffs on Canada and Mexico are a bad idea. The new administration on Tuesday slapped 25% tariffs on imports from both countries in a move that's sure to wreak havoc on America's auto industry. Automakers aren't happy. Dealers aren't happy. Economists are scratching their heads. Stocks are tumbling. And at the end of the day, car buyers will likely see prices rise by thousands of dollars, which nobody wants. The thing to know here is there isn't really a "U.S. auto industry" so much as there's a North American one. Carmakers from Ford to Toyota to Tesla rely extremely heavily on free trade between Mexico, Canada and the U.S. to build and sell cars. Any disruption there is bad, bad news.
