We’ve got the 2025 Toyota 4Runner back, it’s the TRD Off-Road Premium gas model in Heritage Blue!
There are two 2025 Toyota 4Runner powertrain choices for the 4Runner, a 2.4L turbocharged 4-cylinder with an 8-speed automatic transmission, 278 horsepower and 317 lb-ft of torque, part time 4WD, available full-time 4WD. In the US, add 2WD as well.
The second more powerful electrified powertrain is the i-Force Max hybrid with up to 326 horsepower and 465 lb-ft of torque. You can use regular fuel for the hybrid and gas model. We’ll be focusing on the gas model in our review.
The 2025 Toyota 4Runner TRD Off-Road Premium comes standard with front windshield acoustic glass, a locking rear differential, Bilstein shock absorbers, multi-terrain monitor, vehicle stability control, downhill assist control and crawl model.
2025 Toyota 4Runner standard features include a 7” multi-information display, 8” touchscreen wireless Apple Carplay and Android Auto, an 8-speaker audio system, 6-way manual front seats, heated front seats and cloth upholstery. Our test model has plenty of upgrades like the larger 14” touchscreen, 12.3” digital driver display, heated steering wheel, moonroof, Softex power front seats, ventilated front seats, driver seat memory, 14-speaker JBL sound system and a power rear door with kick sensor. The exterior includes, a hood silencer, TRD front grille, underbody protection, full size spare tire and 18” off-road wheels and tires.
There are only a few 2025 Toyota 4Runner trims where you can get the third row, the SR5 and Limited gas models, the third row is not available on the hybrid models.
Here’s the 2025 Toyota 4Runner gas model pricing. In Canada, SR5 $57,283 CAD, TRD Sport $62,085 CAD, TRD Off-Road Premium $66,785 CAD and Limited $70,967 CAD.
In the US, SR5 $40,770 USD, TRD Sport $47,250 USD, TRD Sport Premium $52,610 USD, TRD Off-Road $49,190 USD, TRD Off-Road Premium $54,970 USD, Limited $55,400 USD and TRD Pro $66,900 USD.
Depending on the trim you choose, fuel economy will vary. Part-time 4WD, 12L/100 km 20 MPG city and 9.9L/100 km, 26 MPG highway.

- Since I sell Toyotas, I take customer for test drives of Landcruisers and 4Runners back-to-back many times. In my opinion (and most of my customers agree), the ride and the feel of the Landcruiser is miles ahead of the new 4Runner. The only issue is price - US $45K 4Runner SR5 vs Landcruiser 1958 is $58k (but has a discount on it). Difference is $10K - that is a lot of money. However, you get Hybrid (which is a superior motor/set-up - huge bump in drivability), full time 4WD (another huge advantage for these types of vehicles), a lot more space for passengers (customers complain the new 4Runner is actually smaller inside than the old one, especially in the second row - harder to put a car seat in the back, compared to the old model - no issues in the Landcruiser. Also, if you are really tall, Lancruiser has a tone more headroom.), a couple of amenities like heated seats/steering wheel standard, and significantly more comfortable ride. Is that worth $10k? For people that can afford it, it is absolutely worth it. Where things get more complicated is if one is comparing a Trialhunter vs. loaded Lancruiser - both about $70K vehicles and both have their positives and negatives. So, on the lower end of the scale, Landcruiser wins easily. On the top trims, its a more even playing field and a case can be made that the best vehicle of all of them a the $70K+ is the Lexus GX550.
- Your comments about turning radius got me interested, so I looked it up. 4Runner has a radius of 19.7 ft, Tacoma is 22.9 ft. Since the platform is the same, I suspect the steering angle limit is the same, and the wheelbase bears this out: 4Runner 112.2 in, Tacoma 131.9 in, so the ratio between the two models is essentially the same. - I like the overview of the 25 4Runner. We have a 2014 4Runner outfitted for Overlanding. We love the solid reliability, but it is pretty trucky as a daily driver. We have a Trailhunter on order and it is getting close to arriving at our dealer. It has most of the Overlanding upgrades we have on our current vehicle including the rock rails, trailer brake controller and OME suspension. Having more towing capacity and power along with better tech and fuel economy is a win in our book. I agree the pricing is out of hand, we keep our vehicles a long time so buying them new and loading them up makes sense for us. Guess we will see about the engine and drivetrain. Toyota has done hybrids and turbo's for a long time and know what they are doing. The 2024 Landcruiser was essentially the first year for this platform, so we feel pretty good that they have made some improvements already.
- My wife has the 2025 TRD Sport premium. She had a 2019 4Runner TRD. She specifically wanted this model for the huge touchscreen. She’s extremely happy with the touchscreen. She also thinks it rides smoother even after replacing the tires with all-terrain. Turning’s much tighter and definitely doesn’t feel top heavy like her 2019 felt. Still loves the window still rolls down in the back. Loves the lane assist. She’s had it a month and averages 19.1 miles per gallon and that’s both in town and interstate. She doesn’t have a problem with not having dual climate control. It’s still somewhat chilly where we live and she was quite surprised at how fast the heater engages compared to my truck and her previous 4Runner. I did get the running boards being as she’s 5ft tall and mentioned she’d like to get into the vehicle with some dignity without hopping. Lastly we took off the front plastic dam. (8bolts) Looks so much better without it. We got the ceramic coating and it definitely stays cleaner longer. Everything slides off of it. Overall she’s happy with it and has mentioned more than once it’s the perfect size for her, very roomy but not too big and not too small.
- Good review 👍 Im impressed with Toyota. I have a 2022 Tundra with 151k on it. Toyota replaced the engine a week ago, even though mine was still perfect. They gave me a 2025 Tundra to drive for 2 days while they did the engine. I could clearly tell that Toyota is refining the Tundra. Lots of little changes on the 25 vs my 22 that I didn’t even think was an issue. Beautifully put together truck. And great customer service. They stand behind their product. I also had a 2019 Tundra and sold it with 180k on it; no issues. Im trying a F-150 Tremor 3.5L next, will get it in a month or so. Company truck, I don’t pay for the truck, maint, repairs, insurance or fuel so like to try different trucks regardless of brand. My wife has a 22 4R Limited. Will likely upgrade to a 2026/7 4R Platinum.
