Peugeot 2008 disappoints with one star

Latin NCAP publishes its third crash test result for 2025 with one star for the Peugeot 2008.

Stephan Brodziak, Latin NCAP Chairman said:

"This one-star result for the Peugeot 2008 is unacceptable and reflects a worrying lack of commitment to basic safety by Stellantis in our region. This is not a technical limitation, but a business decision that prioritizes reducing costs at the expense of human lives. It is alarming that technologies and protection levels that the same model offers in other markets are not included as standard equipment in Latin America and the Caribbean. We urge governments to demand more transparency through mandatory vehicle safety labeling, allowing consumers to make informed and incentivize all manufacturers to improve safety performance”.
The New Car Assessment Programme for Latin America and the Caribbean, Latin NCAP, publishes today the third crash test result for 2025 with one star for the Peugeot 2008. So far, the 9 Stellantis Group models tested by Latin NCAP under the latest protocol in effect since 2020, have not managed to obtain more than two stars.

The Peugeot 2008, which is produced in Argentina and some units imported from Europe, achieved one star. The 2008 that offers 4 airbags (two frontal and two side head) and Electronic Stability Control (ESC) as standard and ADAS technologies as optional, achieved 42.16% in Adult Occupant, 59.21% in Child Occupant, 54.48% in Pedestrian Protection and Vulnerable Road Users and 55.81% in Safety Assist. Side pole impact test was not performed and was rated zero points because of the lack of side head protection in front and rear rows as standard. The Adult Occupant protection limited the result of this model to one star.

The model was assessed in frontal impact, side impact, whiplash, pedestrian protection, ESC and Speed Assist System (SAS). The car showed a border line unstable structure in the frontal crash test and protection was good in all body regions for the side movable barrier test. Child occupant protection fell short in chest protection of the 1.5 years old and head and chest protection of the 3 years could have been better. Pedestrian protection in general was good with high risk of injuries in the areas close to the windscreen and A-pillars. Upper and lower leg showed good to adequate protection. The minimum requirement of passive safety score was not reached in order to score ADAS points in adult occupant protection box. Also ADAS fitment rates were not reached. Side curtain airbags and passenger airbag disconnection switch to avoid injury risk in rearward-facing children is only offered in the most expensive versions. As per current protocols manufacturers can always request the assessment of optional safety equipment for Latin NCAP to comment on those technologies and their performances but Peugeot did not do so.

Latin NCAP tests the most basic passive safety specification of the models since 2010 and strongly recommends to buy those versions with side head protection and equipped with tested good performing ADAS technologies, such as Autonomous Emergency Braking.

Alejandro Furas, Secretary General of Latin NCAP said:

“Stellantis disappoints once again, in this case with a model that has competitors in the market that offer better standard passive safety and active safety equipment, like the Nissan Kicks Play, Hyundai Creta, and in some cases even scoring five stars like the Volkswagen T-Cross and the Nissan New Kicks. Stellantis has the technical capacity to offer better standard safety and performances. Latin NCAP expects a reaction from the new global leadership of the Group to improve its product’s performances. It is concerning to see leading car makers like some of those grouped under Stellantis keep offering such low safety performing models, like Latin American and the Caribbean lives do not matter as much as Europeans”.

- Why did you stop testing Indian made cars? Bharat NCAP is only conducting sponsored tests and not performing any independent, involuntary tests by purchasing cars randomly from showrooms like you used to. Please resume testing cars at least the involuntary ones and let BNCAP handle the sponsored tests.

- What happened to the phrase 'safety first'? Customers should not be parting with one penny for luxuries in a car when basic safety is not assured.
- I’ve been driving the Hybrid GT model, 2024 car for 9 weeks as a hire car. I’m looking to buy a new car and have test drove a few, None was as smooth as this car. I even took the GT 3008 for a test drive. Too big for us and I thought it was a bit sluggish. The ride wasn’t as good either. We are buying the Hybrid 2008 GT, the one we have tried and tested for 9 weeks. We love it.

- Just picked mine up at 12 pm UK time, I was one of the types who thought I had made a mistake nope not at all totally surprised and that's no bull 🐂 only thing I do not like the brand new model which I have is petrol came with spider man wheels I would of preferred to spoke ones above they just give off more sporty vib.
