We knew the EV tax credits might get axed if President Trump was re-elected. But now, EV drivers could face a stiff tax bill, all in the name of road upkeep.
Two new bills hit the U.S. Senate this week: one to end the tax credits, and another that would add a $1,000, one-time road tax fee that politicians say will help EV drivers pay their fair share on the roads.
"This amounts to $0.184 per gallon, which might not seem like a lot, but add up all of those miles and you quickly find that the annual revenue can amount to more than $25 billion annually," contributor Rob Stumpf writes today.
What do you think? I bet most EV drivers want to pay for road repairs, since they aren't contributing to gas taxes. Is this the best way to do it?
But we've got some fun stuff on tap for you today too, like a video review of the new Audi Q6 E-Tron, a feature on why EVs don't have spare tires and a look at what's next for solid-state batteries. Enjoy.
