Nice looking update. Although its a 2026 year, not 2025.
I'm gonna spend some time talking about the power figures here and battery update. Probably a post no one will actually read lol. Lets start with the positive before I rant about the negatives. Lots of nice things in this update Starting with the 40 to the 45. Huge battery increase. Im guesing 70+ miles of real world range over the 40 model. And nice power upgrade. Also introducing the base model in the USA. This is what an update should look like. Current 40 owners should consider upgrading and the US market gets an IX that has good range, decent power, at a more interesting price point. Bmw good luck selling the left over 40s once the 45 hits the dealership.

I see a huge miss especially for the M series from BMW plus some small misses. Here they are.
For us current IX owners. Why would we switch? The peak charging is the same. However I believe the curve is better so that could help. The range is similar. A slightly bigger battery. But a huge mid cycle update and not even an added 50 miles of range?? The update here is so small owners probably can't even get one additional day of normal driving before they have to charge. Road trips... likely can't even make it to the next fast charger while on road trips. Adding 20 ish miles of real world range Is like upgrading a steak at dinner from the 20 oz to the 21 oz.
The range overall isn't horrible, but again you aren't really doing enough to get a current ix driver to be excited to "upgrade" when it comes to battery/charging.
Now the M . Literally a name change to showcase the new performance model. Let's talk about this giant upgrade of performance. The M70 Oh wait we can't because there isn't a huge performance update. Maybe BMW could have called it the M60+
I can't wait to "upgrade my 2023 model to a 2026" and get beat In a race by a lyric V (tbd probably very similar 0-60/quarter mile) lucid gravity, Tesla model X plaid or model Y, rivian R1S.I think you all get the point.... But In case you didn't, there is also the eqe AMG. The other German performance suv has had 677 hp for a couple years. And now the new BMW M gets less power. Genius 😮
Didn't the M use to mean performance? And sure my current model is quick. In fact it is a blast to drive. When it came out in 2022, there was very little competition in the class.
Is it more luxurious than some of the other cars I listed above? Heck yeah. Naturally Tesla's are not in the same class with suspension and interior trim. However those lyrics are dang nice as is the lucid gravity and the Mercedes ege amg, many consider even nicer inside the cabin. But again. The M is supposed to be about performance. Leading the class in power/torque. After all BMW has a legit launch feature on this car.
Perhaps dual motor electric cars are tough to produce big power? Oh wait. That means we would have to forget about the other German performance auto maker called Porsche that has 871 HP taycan and a 938HP taycan. But yeah the M performance ix can only offer 650. Now I know those taycan models are way more expensive. So maybe a better example is the 828 HP dual motor lucid gravity.
A real update here would have horsepower starting with a 7 to match the M70 name. Heck even if it were like 710 hp. That would be a wonderful jump from the current ix M60 (610hp) adding 100hp would be a very noticeable difference. Having a 2.9 or 3 second flat 0-60 would be enough to take a current m60 owner and make them at least consider the prettier build, slightly bigger battery and the new performance excitement. I'll close with this. I do think we will see more ix's on the road with this update. The base trim will price in some new buyers in the US, and is a big enough upgrade to have overseas current 40 owners buy again. However the 70... BMW really needed current 60 owners to upgrade. Especially at that price level and I just don't see a reason to run to a dealership and switch. Let us know when M equals performance above the competition again.

Comments Continuous OTA updates is a lie. I have a 2023 i4 and I cant get an update past 11.2023. I went to the dealer and also reached out to BMW concierge and they say that is the latest available version for my vehicle. You are no longer a priority after the purchase is complete.That new grill looks terrible, on all their cars - Please, please go back to the older - horizontal grill designs.
Just one question! Is bmw going to continue their ix forever or are you going to stop it someday? I hope not atleast!
Let me tell you, as a long time Tesla fan and general EV enthusiast…. The BMW iX is quite possibly the best vehicle, EV or ICE, I have ever driven. Spacious, comfortable, quiet, and incredibly quick make for one of the best driving experiences I’ve had the pleasure to be a part of.
I have the iX 40 Sport 2023, from july, any news it will have software update? Currently running 07/2024, and maybe option to upgrade the battery to higher capacity? Im always a bmw fan, from e92, to f10, f15, to the iX, very fun to drive, just might need more range
This car is my dream car from the first moment and I am sure that one day I will buy it!!! I was close to buy MB EQE but l cancel it and will wait for better price of some 2023 iX50. I love this car!
