I'm okay with the window switches. I almost never open rear windows. And in an electric vehicle that is that quiet, they should stay closed for aerodynamics and enjoying that sound dampening. I'm with you on the one pedal. I have the XC40 Recharge and the one pedal is awesome. Very Tesla like. For the EX90, I wish they would let you choose a setting for the one pedal intensity.
Best designed EV inside and out so far! Only a few complaints: The roof glass is beautiful but should be electrochromic. A horizontal center screen with phone chargers underneath, like on Tesla Model X, would utilize the space much better. And the software looks kinda clunky, like a giant Android phone. This car would be perfect for Apple CarPlay Ultra.
Is the software as laggy as it looks like? I just don’t understand why car manufacturers don’t seem to care for a smartphone-style snappy touch screen. Immediate no-go for me, especially for a 80-100k car.
Looks like a nice car. And I'm really talking about the looks here cause all I know is this video. What I don't like is the (almost) total lack of physical button and the way the screens are not integrated in anyway into the design. They look like an afterthought or convenience for the manufacturer because they anticipate that next year the screen will be different. I am not a great Merc fan but CLE 2025 does so much better in this interior looks category when it comes to screens and buttons.
I don’t understand why people freak out that modern cars don’t have physical buttons for the climate. Are you aware that almost all modern cars (including the EX90) have a voice control feature? All you do is press the button on the steering wheel and say “set my temperature to 72°.” Not only does the system then set the temperature to 72°, but it will know whether the request was coming from the driver seat or the front passenger seat, so it will only change the temperature on the position the request is coming from. You literally do not have to remove your hand from the steering wheel! You would have to remove your hand from the steering wheel in order to press physical button. You could do the same for the fan speed and many other choices. Come on people, it’s called the future!
@mkbhd what's your take on the ex90 vs the Rivian R1S? Been debating in my head about which one would make a better primary family car for a while. Currently Volvo eeks ahead on their safety record. But curious to hear if you have a strong opinion.
Volvo has been using, basically, the same setup for HVAC controls for years. I think all Volvo users are used to and enjoy this setup. It's fine much better than some manufacturers. Please dont change this. The window controls, however, are awful. Not only is that a silly design choice, but I also want back a button that you removed. The door/window lock/unlock for the back seats. This button turned on and off the child safety lock for the back seat doors and windows. I use this button very often! When it's just my kids in the back, it's on. When other adults are there, i can quickly turn it off without fiddling around with that little plastic switch on the individual doors most manufacturers use. Also, if I wanted to do just one door in the rear, there is a dedicated lock button on that door. I dont use this as much, but it being there is great! Why get rid of something great. This needs fixed. There's no reason anyone should go from an older model into a newer model and miss features. The removal of features is an awful choice.
