Master Ultra Thin Tourbillon | Jaeger-LeCoultre

Introducing the new Master Ultra Thin Tourbillon Enamel, reimagined with an anthracite grey Grand Feu enamelled dial, illuminated by 180 rays of hand-guillochΓ©. Each ray is engraved through multiple passages of the rose-engine lathe - a feat of immense precision that gives the dial its depth, intensity and brilliance. Housed in an 18k pink gold (750/1000) case, this new interpretation is powered by the latest generation of Calibre 978. Featuring an ultra-thin tourbillon movement with a titanium cage - weighing less than half a gram - and a two-level hairspring, it ensures exceptional accuracy. A testament to MΓ©tiers Rares™ craftsmanship, where enamel, guillochage and technical mastery come together in perfect harmony.

IMFO
The Master Ultra Thin Tourbillon Enamel features a sunray guillochΓ© dial with Grand Feu enamel in an anthracite grey developed especially for this limited edition. In a pink gold case, the ballet of its tourbillon, with 77 components weighing less than 0.5g, is offset by a pink gold bridge. Born from the expertise of the MΓ©tiers Rares™, this complication watch blends originality with fidelity to the collection’s iconic codes—curved lugs, dotted minute track, and signature trapezoidal indexes. Powered by the emblematic Calibre 978, it offers perfect symmetry between a hand-guillochΓ© date sub-dial at 12 o’clock in a circular pattern and a mesmerizing tourbillon at 6 o’clock, which also houses the seconds display, marked by a finely crafted blued helix-shaped hand. The contrast of its finishes and its black alligator leather strap lends it a strong personality, made for lovers of high precision.

1,080 GESTURES TO CREATE THE SUNRAY GUILLOCHAGE
The hand-guillochΓ© pattern is a work of immense precision and skill: each of the 180 ‘sun rays’ required six passages of the hand-operated rose engine lathe. Guided only by the eye and hand, the master guillocheur must ensure that every line is absolutely straight, radiating out from the centre to the edges of the dial. The date sub-dial is also hand-guillochΓ© in a circular pattern (known in French as azurage) to create a subtle texture that contrasts with the sunray.

GRAND FEU ENAMELLED DIAL
Once the guillochΓ© work on the main dial is completed, the master enameller applies enamel in multiple layers, followed by firing at 800°C to create the desired intensity and depth of colour. Creating by testing in results – a lengthy process of iteration made necessary because the nature of Grand Feu enamel means that the outcome of firing is highly unpredictable.

HARNESSING THE TOURBILLON EXPERTISE
The movement powering the Master Ultra Thin Tourbillon Enamel is the latest generation of Calibre 978, which won an international chronomety prize in 2009, the year of its launch. Calibre 978 has been Jaeger-LeCoultre’s mainstay tourbillon movement ever since, and received a comprehensive update in 2019 to harness new technology.

A LEGACY OF MASTERING THIN CALIBRES
Already renowned for its complicated pocket-watches, the new challenge of the twentieth century led Jaeger-LeCoultre to make one of the most prodigious collections of ultra thin calibres in watchmaking history.
